Autogas waste collection vehicles for sustainable transport in cities


Autogas is rank as the most suitable alternative for this type of vehicle, with lower CO2 emissions than most of the modern diésel transports.

The decarbonization of the transport system is one of the main bases -together with digitization and growing urbanization- of the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy created by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda for the year 2030, following the guidelines established by the European Union.

In order to achieve this goal, Autogas is already positioned as one of the most suitable fuels for urban waste collection vehicles, thanks to its application and cost characteristics. It is a clean energy that already powers more than 27 million vehicles in the world and, since 2014, it is recognized by the European Commission as an alternative fuel for transport.

The engines produced by BeGas, pioneers on an international scale in the production of Euro-VI Autogas propellants, allow a significant economic saving in fuel up to 36%.

BeGas, fully aware of this opportunity, started just five years ago this ambitious project that, to this day, still remains as the unique in Europe: the manufacture of 100% Autogas engines with the Euro-VI Step D approval; the most advanced in the European Union for combustion equipment.

''It is an alternative fuel with a lower cost than the other choices, which is supplied at service stations and allows, for example, an urban waste collection fleet to save up to 36% in fuel costs'',declare Pedro Silva, CEO of BeGas.

The repower of diesel urban waste collection vehicles allows municipal companies and town halls with a smaller budget to join successfully the energy transition.

These characteristics allow Autogas to be the best ally for local administrations to move towards zero emissions target, promoting the use of less polluting alternative energies that, at the same time, let energy and economic efficiency in public spending.

Thanks to the incorporation of Autogas in urban waste vehicles, local companies and corporations can join the energy transition thanks to the repower or remotorization of diesel models. The modality is offered by BeGas to ensure that “municipal companies and city councils that cannot bear the cost of a total replacement of the fleet at the moment can move towards a much more sustainable and responsible transport that will not only reduce polluting emissions, but also it will improve air quality in cities ”, Silva points out.

This service can be used in heavy diesel vehicles between three and ten years old, thus favoring the second use of this vehicles that can still extend their useful life.

Along with the savings involved in installing Autogas engines in urban waste collection vehicles, performance is another of its key points. The propulsion of the Autogas in liquid phase does not penalize the performance of the engine of this type of vehicles and allows to control the flow of the fuel from the tank to the injector tip.

In this way, BeGas offers city councils a solution aligned with their sustainable mobility plans where not only environmental sustainability is contemplated through the use of clean energy, but also the most economical and cost efficient,favoring the circular economy.

Furthermore, due to its characteristics and benefits, the BeGas AVG can be installed in trucks and city buses,thus obtaining the Eco-DGT environmental label, with the benefits that this certificate brings with it when accessing lowemission zones, much more common in city centers every day.
