The Retrofit, BeGas’ alternative in line with the new Draft Law on Sustainable Mobility

The decarbonisation of the economy has been positioned as one of the fundamental objectives to reduce environmental impacts in metropolises, with special emphasis on heavy urban transport. So much so that the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has just presented to the Council of Ministers the Draft Law on Sustainable Mobility and Transport Financing, which enshrines the right to more sustainable mobility, respectful of the environment and health, structured around public transport. An aim fully aligned with the strategy of the ecological engine manufacturer BeGas which, thanks to its re-motorisation service for heavy diesel vehicles between three and ten years old, accompanies trucks and urban buses in their final years of useful life with an engine powered by autogas or biopropane, alternative energies that reduce emissions of polluting gases by up to 90%.

This totally innovative solution has already been recognised by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge by including the re-motorisation and recycling service for urban transport fleets in its II Catalogue of Good Practices in the Circular Economy. In this way, BeGas engines are an example to follow for other companies that want to join the ecological transition.

Thanks to these engines, which have Euro VI Step E approval, the most advanced in the EU for combustion equipment, polluting emissions from heavy urban transport are drastically reduced. In fact, they reduce the levels of suspended particles and NOx by more than 90%. In addition, they achieve noise levels 50% lower than those emitted by diesel vehicles, which contributes to the reduction of noise pollution in cities.

Price is another of the main benefits of the BeGas proposal, which, in addition to allowing savings of up to 36% in fuel costs, offers companies and administrations the opportunity to reuse their vehicle fleets. This makes the service accessible to all local corporations, even those with smaller budgets. Furthermore, the simplicity of transporting and supplying autogas and biopropane makes it an ideal option for the most remote regions as well.

These characteristics position BeGas engines as the best option for local administrations to move towards sustainable mobility, while accelerating the decarbonisation of cities by promoting the use of less polluting alternative energies in transport, responsible – in all its forms – for approximately a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions.
