Air pollution, caused largely by transport, represents a significant environmental risk to health. So much so that 4.2 million premature deaths are related to this phenomenon, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
However, health is not the only aspect that is affected by this cause; the economy is also affected. Pollution costs each Spanish citizen an average of 1,000 euros a year, as reflected in the latest report by the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA). These data highlight the need to invest in sustainable transport alternatives that contribute to increasing the quality of life in cities.
The outbreak of the pandemic is accelerating the transformation of urban transport towards clean technologies with the mission of improving the quality of life in urban centres and, precisely, BeGas is one of the companies that wants to accompany institutions and city councils in this process.
This technology-based and research-based company has become the only producer in the world of engines powered 100% by AutoGas (liquefied gas) with European Euro VI D approval, which drastically reduces polluting emissions from road transport.
Precisely liquefied gas is the most widely used alternative fuel in the world, offering the same performance as traditional fuels and, in addition, effectively contributing to improving air quality in cities. The reduction in particle emissions and nitrogen oxides that it achieves makes it an ecological and clean fuel, which provides the transport sector with the perfect solution for bus and truck fleets.
“At BeGas we are committed to AutoGas because it is an ecological fuel that, in addition, has a price that is approximately 45% cheaper than a litre of diesel, which allows a 36% reduction in operating costs,” says Pedro Silva, CEO of the company.
The advantages of the AutoGas engine
The BeGas AVG gas engine has Euro VI Step D approval, the most advanced in the EU for combustion equipment. In fact, it reduces the emission standards required by the regulations by 51% in CO levels, 22% in PN levels, 57% in NOx levels, 29% in PM10 and 87% in HC levels.
These figures allow all engines manufactured by BeGas to obtain the DGT ECO environmental badge, offering a unique solution to the market that combines technological innovation in emissions control with the use of a clean fuel.
“BeGas’ innovative commitment has led large energy companies committed to sustainability, as well as significant public and private funds, to opt for this type of engine, which is making us evolve towards a less polluted society,” says Silva.
Another benefit of its good adaptation to heavy industrial vehicles is its size. The BeGas AVG engines are more compact than conventional ones, which, together with the propulsion by this alternative fuel in liquid phase, increases the engine’s performance.
In addition, the LGI liquid injection system provides absolute control of the fuel from the tank to the injector tip, obtaining low fuel consumption and a perfect oxygen/gas mixture inside the cylinder. By injecting the gas in liquid phase, the temperature in the combustion chamber is reduced and contributes to the reduction of polluting gas emissions. In fact, the CO2 emissions of these engines are 15% lower than the most advanced equivalent diesel engines.
